At 49 years of age and after years of living with knee pain, I met Dr. Talmo. He advised me I was past the point where cortisone injections could bring relief and the next step was knee replacement - bilateral knee replacement. Due to my age and health, I was told I was a good candidate to have both knees replaced at the same time.
Dr. Talmo earned my trust quickly and he educated me on the best plan for me. My surgery went well and my care at The Baptist was fantastic. I was up and taking steps within 24 hours. My hospital stay was 3 days. With proper physical therapy, I was walking with crutches within 5 days of surgery. At my 6 week check up, I was able to walk independently into Dr. Talmo’s exam room without crutches. I was faithful with my physical therapy and at home exercises.
At 3 years out, I’m so pleased to say the memory of having my knee replacement surgery is a good one. I got my life back...Dr. Talmo gave me my life back...forever grateful.

I spent years believing the false narrative that younger people should wait to have a knee replacement. All this got me was years of unnecessary suffering. I was referred to Dr. Talmo by my mom who couldn't say enough good things and kept asking me how much longer I wanted to suffer. After an x-ray and evaluation Dr. Talmo confirmed what I knew, that my knee was trashed beyond any of the other "band-aids" other doctors put me through. The first month was rough but if and when I need pain meds, the staff responded immediately. The attached picture is me golfing in Aruba 86 days after my operation. Airplane seating, staircases, tight parking spots... I fear you no more! If your knee is junk, it doesn't matter how old you are. Get a new knee and your old self back! Nurses and staff at New England Baptist are awesome and excited to be a part of your journey...Thanks Dr. Talmo!

Dr. Talmo (educated at Harvard and Columbia and Assistant Chief of Orthopedic Research) is an excellent surgeon--very precise and careful. I had very little pain after two separate total knee replacement surgeries (three months apart) and was able to walk 24 hours after surgery. (I then had about three months of PT after each surgery near my home.) I recommend staying overnight at the hospital at least two days and insisting on a scopolamine patch if you are prone to nausea from anesthesia. Infection control is a high priority. The nurses at NE Baptist are kind and attentive. Even the food was good at the hospital. My only complaint is that the administrative staff can sometimes be unhelpful or unfriendly with questions after surgery (Dr. Talmo is very busy). You can bypass the administrative staff and contact a nurse. But overall, my experience was excellent, and my knees feel great! I exercise at the gym with no problem now. My quality of life has improved 100 percent.

Jan 24.2020 I am 47 years old. I had both hips replaced by Dr. Talmo. Left side in January 2019 and the right in January 2020. I had incredible lower back hip and knee pain on my left side. I had immediate pain relief after the first day of surgery. Both hips were deformed since childhood but the pain began in my early 40’s. I highly recommend Dr. Talmo as I was a special case. I would’ve done it sooner if I had known the outcome.

Love Dr. Talmo! He is very kind and answers any questions you have. I had a total knee replacement and am 6 weeks out and very happy with his work. I would not hesitate to go back to him again.

Dr. Talmo totally replaced both my knees 4 years apart and I am delighted with the outcome of both. I just hit the one year anniversary of my second knee replacement and had a very positive check up visit with Dr. Talmo. I am playing competitive level recreational tennis 4-5 times per week and have recently taken mountain day hikes exceeding 5 miles and 1800 foot elevation change. The knee replacements have improved my life immeasurably. My experiences with Dr. Talmo, PA Kimberly Chin, the office staff, and the NE Baptist hospital with respect to appointments, responsiveness and follow-up have all been satisfactory over the years. When meeting with any busy surgeon I suggest that you make a list in advance of questions that you have and bring them with you to your appointment. Dr. Talmo was first recommended to me 5 years ago by a close friend. I in turn have recommended him to two relatives for whom he sucessfully replaced joints . I recommend Dr. Talmo without reservation. I also credit my good outcomes to the expert physical therapy provided by Dipti Shah of Carewell Physical Therapy in North Andover.

Total knee replacement November 1st. Doing great today makes 4 weeks out. Flexion 120° extension -5 degrees. Pt says this great. I can ride an exercise bike for 10 mins. I was not able to ride at all before surgery. It's not an easy surgery and yes there is alot of pain and swelling. Listen to the professionals and do what they say. Dr Talmo's office is great. They get right back to you when you call or they know the answer the 1st time around. Great people. Best Hospital experience I have ever had!!
