A native of the Boston area, Dr. Talmo is a graduate of Harvard University and received his medical degree from Columbia University. He completed his residency training through the Tufts University orthopedic surgery residency program and the New England Baptist Hospital. Dr. Talmo completed his fellowship in reconstructive hip and knee surgery at The Massachusetts General Hospital and Harris Orthopedic Biomechanics and Biomaterials Laboratory, where he served as a clinical instructor in orthopedic surgery at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Talmo is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS) and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS). He is also a member of the New England Orthopedic Society (NEOS) and The American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS). Dr. Talmo is on the faculty of Tufts University School of Medicine, serving as a clinical instructor in orthopedic surgery. He also participates in the training and instruction of the fellows of the Otto E. Aufranc fellowship in reconstructive hip and knee surgery at the New England Baptist Hospital, one of the oldest and most prestigious orthopedic fellowship training programs in the US. Dr. Talmo specializes in joint replacement surgery of the hip and knee as well as complex revision total joint replacement surgery. Dr. Talmo has authored many scientific articles and book chapters related to hip and knee disorders and joint replacement surgery. He has also lectured and given numerous scientific presentations at local and national meetings on topics related to the hip and knee including: surgical techniques in hip and knee replacement surgery, osteonecrosis of the hip, techniques and advancements in revision hip and knee replacement surgery, treatment of fractures after total joint replacement, orthopedic infections and mechanisms of failure of total joint replacements.
Dr. Talmo is involved in clinical and academic research and is affiliated with the department of Orthopedic Research at the New England Baptist Hospital. He is involved in projects aimed at monitoring and improving early and long-term postoperative outcomes following primary and revision total joint replacement and other treatments for arthritis of the hip and knee. He has been actively involved in the development and ongoing promotion of the NEBH’s Total Joint Registry initiative, which dramatically improves the tracking of implants and helps to ensure continued top-quality orthopedic care for patients. Dr. Talmo’s main focus is the clinical practice of orthopedic surgery and joint replacement surgery and in providing exceptional care to his patients.
